Start your day with an amazing sunrise over the Kathmandu valley, before hiking through a dense forest hill, leading you to traditional villages and monasteries. End the day in Bakhtapur, one of the most popular UNESCO heritage site of Nepal.
Nagarkot is a world famous hill station commanding breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayas, rolling hills, deep valleys, lush pine forests in a quaint rural atmosphere. Considered as the best viewpoint spot to enjoy the magnificent sunrise and sunset with spectacular Himalayan vistas, Nagarkot commands one of the broadest views of the snow capped Himalayas in the Kathmandu valley (8 Himalayan ranges of Nepal out of 13 from here). The ranges include Annapurna range, Manaslu range, Ganesh himal range, Langtang range, Jugal range, Rolwaling range, Mahalangur range (Everest range) and Numbur range with splendid views of the Kathmandu valley and Shivapuri national park.
Nagarkot is 32 KM away from Kathmandu or one hour scenic drive away. The walk is mostly downhill and offers grand views of the mountains, hills, villages, temples and Kathmandu valley. The trail is wide and easy to walk on as long as one is geared with hiking shoes. In totality, the trip introduces Nepals natural and cultural heritages. It is an ideal trip for those with limited time but wish to get a taste of trekking in Nepal. The hike from Nagarkot to Bhaktapur (Ancient town) via Changu Narayan is pleasant.
Changunarayan is the oldest Temple of Kathamndu valley dated back to 7th century and listed in the UNESCO world Heritage sites. The hike from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan takes about 4 to 5 hrs. From Changu Narayan one can catch a bus to Bhaktapur or hike to downhill Shankhu village than drive back to Kathmandu.
