If you are looking for adventure and the cultural experience of a lifetime, look no further. From the highest mountain on earth, to the wildlife reserves of Chitwan and the birthplace of Buddha, Nepal has something for everyone.
Ranging from an altitude of just 60m in the lowland Terai to the summit of Mount Everest at 8848m, Nepal has some of the most varied geography and biodiversity in the world. It is home to some of the word’s most rare animals and over 800 species of birds treks and expeditions.
Whether you are an experienced climber or planning your first trek there are options for everyone. Eight of the worlds highest mountains are in Nepal with over 300 peaks open for mountaineering. Each region offers something completely different: trek through paddy fields and rhododendron forests, follow the world’s deepest river gorge, walk through valleys surrounded by snowy peaks, and visit ancient isolated villages.
Nepal is home to four UNESCO world heritage sites. The two cultural heritage sites are Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, and the seven monuments of the Kathmandu Valley which include the historical royal squares of Kathmandu, Bahaktapur and Patan, the two Buddhist stupas, Swayambunath and Boudhnath and the two Hindu temples, Pashupatinath and Changunarayan, all of which offer stunning examples of Nepal’s art, architecture, and religous devotion. The other two world heritage sites, Chitwan and Sagarmatha national parks, offer completely different experiences. Go on safari in Chitwan and look for the elusive Bengal tiger. Or take some time out to wash the elephants on the banks of the river.
Sagamartha national park isn’t just about Everest, other treks include the Gokyo Valley, Lobuche-Kala Pattar-Base Camp, Chukung Valley, Thame valley and many more. Few other destinations in the world can match Nepal in the variety of activities available, be it mountaineering, trekking, mountain biking, white water rafting, cannoning, kayaking, canoeing, mountain flights, pony trekking, jungle safaris, bird watching, angling, paragliding, ultra light aircraft rides or bungy jumping – take your pick!
